Corpus Callosum

An independent space founded by Guillermo Santamarina in the early 1990s in Guadalajara. Santamarina, an art critic, curator,  and visual artist based in Mexico City, organized the annual Foros de Teoría del Arte Contemporáneo (FITAC) parallel to the city’s nascent art fair (the only one of its kind in the country), which eventually became the event around which the art world would congregate. As a short-lived space, Corpus Callosum housed several Latin American artist exhibitions, including: Eduardo Abaroa, Wart Mart: Escultura e instalación, Corpus Callosum, Mexico City (1994); Enrique Ježik, Corpus Callosum Workshop, Guadalajara (1994); Abraham Cruzvillegas, Ensayo de Estabilidad Precaria, Corpus Callosum, Guadalajara (1994); and Abraham Cruzvillegas, ¿Ummagumma? Especies de indeterminación, Corpus Callosum, Guadalajara (1995).

Santamarina was also the curatorial coordinator at the El Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC) at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (2008-2010) and has been the director of several cultural institutions, including Ex Teresa Arte Actual and the Museo Experimental El Eco.
